Travelling

One of the things I find fascinating about travelling is the variety of shops, but horseshoes in a supermarket is a first,

as well as everything for the car

and the normal food.

River crossings are always entertaining, particularly if another vehicle is less robust than one's own.

Running hot water in this 5star hut, courtesy of the local sulphurous vent,

but the blue sky didn't last

The routs plan described the bridge as an "obstacle", the bridge itself was fine, the way down to it more exciting...

The wide river at Thorsmork changes it's course often enough to have bridges on wheels with their own tractor on call, both to move them and to rescue over-brave vehicles.

But this is really the only way to cross rivers, five minutes or so from it's feeding glacier, bracing!

The weather meant we had to spend a couple of nights in luxury rather than our tents.

Old volcanic vents make splendid caves, it's possible to go deep in some well explored ones.

The nose of the Eyjafyalljokull glacier, the tiny dot in the middle is a large truck, the glacier is BIG, the gorge on the right formed in a few hours when the eruption melted it, this used to be a lagoon with a grassy picnic area.

The Seljandfoss has a rainy track behind it, Sgwd yr Eira Waterfall, Brecon on a major scale.
