Reykjavic, random corners

Probably the iconic image of Reykjavic, the Hallgrimskirkja, a wonderfully simple-elegant church, visible from all around. Outside the entrance is a fine statue of Leifur Ericsson, the archetypal Norse explorer.

From the tower you can, on a good day, see the whole city like a child's painted toy city.

Paint replaces flowers as the growing season is so short.

To continue the arty theme, many buildings are painted with strange designs

Every space seems to have a sculpture of some sort, many representing the folklore and history of Iceland

like this Viking longship.

Boats of all sorts are vital to Iceland's history, always good for a few photos.

There are many new and interesting buildings, this on has a double skin of coated glass in an almost honeycomb design, presumably for insulation.

  1. Wow, it looks like such an unusual place! The texture of the houses reminds me a bit of Sweden.
The first building, the church tower, looks like a big icicle, and the long ship sculpture is really nice too.
