One of the many fascinations of travelling is the buildings, different styles of bricks & tiles tell a huge amount about the lifestyle and climate. I think these patterned slate tiles are unique to this part of Germany. The snake-effect over the dormer window must be a nightmare to make or repair. On our recent trip to Ladakh the houses were mainly sun-dried mud-brick, fine for cold & dry, but in the last 10 years or so the monsoon has blundered over the Himalayas, causing massive damage to building never engineered for rain.
